The animal project is one of the main projects for the second graders on my school for art. The idea is that everybody chooses an animal. In my case, it is the vulture. During a long period of time, we are doing all kind of drawings and pieces of art related to the animal. We started off with doing 7 very quick sketches, every sketch had it own rules/theme. First we made a stick figure (so no space insid of the body). Than we also did a drawing without taking the pencil off the paper, also one with only blocks, and one in Picasso style. Than we made a collage. We chose pictures of our animal from different angles, as well as some close up pictures. We had to paste them on a paper and than decorate it. If we need inspiration for a drawing, we can now always take the collage and have a look. Than we made some speed sketches, we had much more time than for the first ones, but we still had to work quite fast. Now we could also look at the collage to make them accurate. The last thing we did was a close-up drawing. We could choose any material we wanted, as long as we made it a close-up drawing. I chose pencils, although I probably would have chosen pastels if I could do it again. Nevertheless I really liked the result, and I find the animal project a very interesting and nice project.
